When I was you…

Popular girl Gabrielle Fox only looks like she has it all together. But secretly she’s freaking out about failing her classes, failing to graduate and hiding her crush on the nerdy boy next door. When lightning strikes and she wakes up in another body, in another world (England, 1819, to be precise) she definitely does not have her sh*t together and she has a lot to figure out—fast—if she wants to get back to her real life. Of course she wants to get back, right?

…And you were me

Lady Alice Fellows is an oh-so-proper young lady about to accept the perfect marriage proposal...or is she? She may be tempted by the bad boy of the neighborhood—and not the boring lord about to propose—but this wallflower would never, ever do anything to cause a scandal. But when lightning strikes and she wakes up in the body of a popular high school girl two hundred years later, she has no idea what the rules are anymore. In fact, she might finally be free to do whatever she wants.

And that time we changed our destinies...

Alice and Gabrielle couldn’t be more different, but they might be just exactly what they need—if they can stop causing trouble for each other and start living their best lives.

I was not alone. I was not alone. There I was—in the reflection in the mirror. Naturally, my jaw dropped in shock, and a piercing wail escaped my throat. When confronted with the supernatural, or evidence of witchcraft or some other such devilry, one screamed.

I stood on one side of the mirror, in a time and place I could not fathom. And there, on the other side, was me—and a room I recognized as my own.

“Shhh.”

I immediately quieted down. The girl on the other side—she? me?—had shushed me.

“Don’t scream. Don’t make a sound.” I watched in mute horror as a person I recognized as possessing my body spoke. “The last thing I need right now is to attract more attention.”

I was quiet. For a second. Then the questions burst forth. “Who are— What has— Dear God— I don’t understand how—“

“I know, I know,” she said in a fierce whisper. “What the hell, right?”

“Do watch your language, please!” I couldn’t help but admonish her. I couldn’t help but wonder if I ought to say our language. Of course a bluestocking such as myself would fret over pronouns at a time like this.

“I take it you’re Alice,” the girl said, standing with one hand on a jutting hip. “In my body.”

In a second, it clicked. “You must be Gabby.”

“The one and only,” she said, grinning. How strange to see me with a grin. I didn’t think I grinned very often. For a second I glimpsed a happy, impish me instead of the awkward wallflower I always felt like. I didn’t know what to make of it. Any of it.

“Is Gabby your full name?” I inquired delicately.

“My full name is Gabrielle Christina Fox.”

“And I am Lady Alice Fellows. How do you do?”

Gabrielle demonstrated an unsettling lack of manners when she replied. “Are you freaking kidding me? How do I do? We seem to have switched bodies and, like, centuries. I’ve woken up in the body of a prim and oh-so-proper girl in another damned century. And you want to know how do I do? Jesus.”
