My Social Media Sabbatical
This month in exciting adventures: I’m going to take a break from social media to see if the world ends or not. I’ll abstain from Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and even blogging. Instead, it’ll just be my word document and me. I’ll be working on new books—both historical and contemporary. I have no idea what I’ll do when I need to procrastinate.
I genuinely love Twitter, Facebook and the like. The idea to avoid them never would have occurred to me, if not for a friend who tried taking six months off from all social media in order to focus on her writing. Without the distraction, she wrote an insane amount and rediscovered some of the joy in writing. Plus, I have an idea for a novel that I am hankering to write and I have a feeling that once I get started on it, I won’t want to come up for air. Or blogs.
And then there is August. It’s a hot, lazy month. It’s a time to loll about on the porch with a cool beverage and a good book. I recommend new releases from my pals Caroline Linden (check out Love and Other Scandals) and Katharine Ashe (definitely pick up How To Marry A Highlander). Speaking of good books, it’s also Read A Romance Month. To celebrate, over 90 authors are writing about why romance matters (so you have something to read while I’m not blogging). I encourage everyone to check it out (especially my post on August 12th). Or just read a romance. Or just power down your phone and laptop and step outside to enjoy this last, glorious month of summer.
See ya in September
