Must Reads: sexy and romantic books for summer
These books made me happy. I hope they make you happy too!
The Story Guy by Mary Ann Rivers
I had to buy this novella when it was described as “practically perfect in every way.” The premise is intriguing: after answering his personal add, Carrie meets Brian in the park every Wednesday for an hour of kissing. Just kissing. I’ll be honest: the first chapter didn’t wow me, but I was waiting for the doctor so I stuck with it. By chapter two, I was captivated and having the rare experience of not sure what would come next in a story. By the end, I was moved to tears right there in the doctor’s waiting room. And I must mention the deliciously erotic descriptions of kissing and the insanely hot phone sex scene.
If the Shoe Fits by Megan Mulry
Megan Mulry’s books might be my new drug of choice. Her down-to-earth heroines live in a fabulous world of wealthy dukes, ancestral castles, single girl apartments in Chicago and New York. And in this one…the shoes! Oh, the shoes! Devon Hayworth is a secretly brilliant, thoroughly disreputable rake who falls hard for Sarah James, a successful but slightly insecure shoe designer. They embark on an incredibly passionate and tempestuous love affair that is ultimately helped along by meddling family members. Je loved this sexy contemporary romance.
Sex and the Citadel : Intimate Life in a Changing Arab World by Shereen El Feki
This is not a romance novel, but it’s a book about men, women and love. It’s an incredibly researched, thoughtful and eye-opening account of the culture around sex in the Arab world, from the intimate lives of married men and women to prostitution and pornography. It’s also about how this culture used to be so open and embracing of all kinds of sexuality and how the revolutions of the Arab Spring are ushering in new changes in people’s personal lives. As I read, I wondered how one might change a culture to be more accepting of sexual pleasure…read more romance novels, perhaps? Or have more honest conversations about it, as this book does.
It would be remiss of me not to mention this collection of four interconnected novellas written by myself and my fellow Lady Authors. As society gathers at Kingstag Castle for the wedding of the year, matrimony is in the air. But who will be the bride? With swoonworthy lords, witty ladies, eccentric relatives, a gaggle of free-spirited girls, not to mention the world’s best high perch phaeton, it’s a recipe for mayhem–and romance.Four authors, four couples, four deliciously romantic surprises. When it comes to love, anything can happen…Order it from Amazon * Barnes & Noble
