Must Reads! Headstrong heroines
This month I’ve been hooked on some very headstrong, capable heroines. Who am I kidding? I’m always a fan, whether in 1808 Spain, 1830 Scotland, or present day Chicago. And especially when they find strong, smart and handsome heroes.
Bound to Be A Bride by Megan Mulry
I adore Megan Mulry’s contemporary novels and I was very intrigued when I saw she was writing a historical set in 1808 Spain. In Eager for something a bit different, I picked this up and was not disappointed in the novella about a hero and heroine escaping an arranged marriage–to each other. There are mistaken identities, a headstrong heroine, a hot hero with secrets and some bondage.
Love Irresistibly by Julie James
Julie James novels are like candy to me. They are so sweet and such a treat. This is the latest in her FBI/U.S. Attorney series and it features another kick ass career girl and a man tough enough to be her match. I love how her books explore the relationship between the characters as much as the attraction. Also, her heroines always have great hair, outfits and shoes. Je want!
The Anatomist’s Wife by Anna Lee Huber
This is not the sort of book I usually read. It’s not strictly a romance (though there are romantic elements). There’s a murder mystery with gruesome details. Yet I was riveted. Lady Darby has a talent for painting and a scandalous past which she uses to assist the handsome Mr. Gage in a murder investigation that took place during a house party in her family’s castle in 1830 Scotland.
